Australian Youth Digital Index
Telstra Foundation’s Australian Youth Digital Index (AYDI) provides a free-to-use comprehensive view of how young Australians engage with digital technology from access to connectivity, skills, safety, and wellbeing.
About the 2025 Index
The 2025 AYDI Index continues to explore the key dimensions of device access, internet connectivity, digital skills, online safety, wellbeing, and social media engagement.
The 2025 findings reveal near-universal access to smartphones and laptops, high levels of digital literacy, and frequent daily internet use across all age groups and locations. The Index also highlights important challenges, such as disparities in advanced digital skills, gaps in critical thinking and troubleshooting, and the impact of online risks on wellbeing.

About the Index
The Australian Youth Digital Index is an annual research project that provides insights into the digital experiences and needs of young Australians. Each year the Index will offer a comprehensive view of how young people engage with digital technology, highlighting key findings about access, connectivity, skills, safety, and wellbeing.
The data collected through surveys and focus groups will help guide the work of non-profits, regulators, educators, policymakers, and the social tech sector. By tracking changes and trends over time, the Index will inform and encourage debate, contribute to policy development, and support initiatives aimed at improving digital inclusion and online safety for young Australians.
Who is behind the Index?
The Index is run by the Telstra Foundation (Telstra’s philanthropic arm) who for more than two decades have been focused on youth and technology in Australia.
We wish to equip children and young people with the skills to successfully manage and navigate the everyday interactions of growing up online, including its benefits, risks, and challenges. Findings from the Index will help us to identify the best areas to focus our support so we can help young people thrive.
The Australian Youth Digital Index was co-designed with Wallis Social Research and is based on the United Kingdom’s Nominet Digital Youth Index survey.
