Telstra Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been documenting a typical day in their digital life. From chatting to friends, getting work done and even hiding devices from themselves, the way they get through their digital day is a mix of fun, creativity, work and connecting.

This glimpse into their daily routines reveals how deeply integrated digital technology is in their lives and shows their hopes for a balanced and enriching digital experience.

This is also evident in insights from our Australian Youth Digital Index, where respondents indicated that a balance is required when using digital technology to maintain well-being and productivity.

The insights demonstrate that while digital technology offers numerous benefits, such as connectivity, access to information, and educational opportunities, it also presents challenges like screen fatigue, cyberbullying, and privacy concerns.

What we see however is that a significant majority of young people say they have the capability to navigate the challenges of the digital world but are still learning, and most young people are aware of the negative impacts of being on devices but generally feel in control.

Overall, the YAC’s reflections underscore the importance of a digital world that is not only functional but also supportive of their well-being and personal development.
